Amboseli National Park Safaris and Vacations
Amboseli National Park Safaris combine well with safaris to the Masai Mara and maximising your wildlife viewing. Amboseli covers approximately 390 kilometres squared and consists of open grasslands, acacia woodlands, swamps and marshlands. The best game viewing here is during the dry season months when the wildlife congregates around the more permanent water sources.
Wildlife in Amboseli and the Best Time to Visit:
Amboseli National Park is renowned for its huge elephant herds and spectacular views of Mt Kilimanjaro in the distance. Large herds of buffalo and elephants (approximately 650 in the park) graze the swampy marshlands with wildebeest, zebra and giraffe wandering the open grasslands as well as rhinos. Predators are also in abundance with lion prides, leopards and cheetahs. With over 400 recorded species of birds, Amboseli is also a popular Park with birders with some of the highlights including African darters, Egyptian Geese, Pygmy Falcons, Kingfishers and secretary birds.
The Best time to visit Amboseli National Park is during the dry season months of January through to April, and June through to October. Wildlife safaris are better during these months as the vegetation is thinner and therefore spotting the game is easier; as it is dry, the game generally congregates around the water holes and therefore frequent visits to these often provide good results in terms of spotting game.
